Laura A. Dorko Mueller, Psy.D.

Dr. Laura Mueller is a highly accomplished school psychologist and educational leader. She currently serves as the Program Director and an Assistant Professor for the School Psychology program at the California School of Education at Alliant International University (AIU).
Dr. Mueller served as an Adjunct Professor in AIU’s Educational Psychology master’s and doctoral programs for over 14 years. A distinguished alumna of AIU, she holds an M.A. in School Psychology and a Psy.D. in Educational Psychology, where she was recognized with the “Outstanding Doctor of Education” award.
Her professional background includes extensive service as a School Psychologist, Behavior Specialist, Educationally Related Mental Health Services (ERMHS) provider, and Program Specialist. She continues to actively contribute to the field through her part-time work as an ERMHS consultant for the Poway Unified School District.
Dr. Mueller is a recognized expert on Nonsuicidal Self-Injury (NSSI). She presented her doctoral research findings at the American Academy of Pediatrics, the San Diego County Office of Education, the Orange County Office of Education, the California Association of School Psychologists (CASP), and the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP). Most recently, she presented on NSSI at the NASP Annual Convention in Seattle in February 2025 and will be offering a national webinar on the topic for NASP members in December 2025.
In addition to her work on NSSI, Dr. Mueller collaborated with Dr. Steve Fisher and Dr. Don Wofford to present research on two topics: Cannabis Use and Self-Care Among Graduate Students at the Hawaiian International Conference on Education (HICE) in January 2025. Her commitment to advancing the field of school psychology has been further recognized by NASP, who very recently selected her to author an upcoming book on the critical issue of chronic absence in schools.
Dr. Mueller’s earlier collaborative research with Dr. Fisher on mindfulness curriculum implementation in elementary schools has also received international recognition. Their work was presented at the World Council for Curriculum and Instruction in Rome in 2018 and was subsequently published in the conference proceedings.
